7 Must-Try Ingredients for Healthy Skin and Hair

At Bee Clean Boutique, we are not shy to say that our artisan bath and body products are the bee's knees. Not only do we use ingredients that are 100% certified organic, fair trade, and/or ECOCERT certified, we also purposefully use ingredients that promote healthy skin and hair.

If you care about what goes on your skin, then bookmark this page for future reference. All of our products are properly labelled with ingredients, so you can see what is in your daily soap, shampoo and conditioner, bath bomb, shower steamer or body and lip balms.

But, even if you know what's in the product, you may not know why they're good for you. Here are 7 ingredients that we'd like to rave about.

1. Activated Charcoal

Activated charcoal is known for its ability to draw out impurities from the skin, making it a popular ingredient in detoxifying masks and cleansers. Dirt, toxins, heavy metals, chemicals, and other poisons are attracted to the charcoal molecules and washed away. It can also help unclog pores, reduce acne, and improve overall skin clarity.

You can find this mighty ingredient in the following products:

2. Avena Sativa and Colloidal Oatmeal

Avena Sativa Kernel Extract and Colloidal Oatmeal are both derived from oats. Oat's natural oil coat makes it a great moisturizer for skin. Colloidal Oatmeal also binds to your skin and locks in moisture, giving your skin a chance to rehydrate.

Oat is also rich in antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties. It can help soothe and calm irritated skin, making it ideal for those with sensitive skin conditions like eczema or psoriasis.

Furthermore, oat is great for maintaining the skin barrier's integrity, protecting it from environmental stressors, and can even boost collagen, which is good for skin structure and elasticity.

When used in soap, the ground oats can act as a gentle exfoliant.

Please note that if you have celiac disease or are sensitive to gluten, you should avoid these products.

3. Shea Butter

You may also see Shea Butter in its latin form, Butryospermum Parkii Butter, on our labels.

It is an emollient that is rich in vitamins and fatty acids, helping to moisturize and nourish skin, and leaving it soft and supple.

Shea Butter also has anti-inflammatory and healing properties, making it great for soothing dry or damaged skin. So, if you suffer from dry, rough and flaky skin, try skin care products with this powerhouse ingredient.

We use Shea Butter in the following products:

4. Eucalyptus Oil

Eucalyptus Oil has a refreshing and invigorating scent, making it a popular choice for aromatherapy products, like our shower steamers. It has antimicrobial, antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties, making it beneficial for stimulating deep breathing and treating respiratory issues.

We include this wonderful essential oil in these products:

5. Honey

Honey was a key ingredient used in our original soaps when we first started the company. We have since expanded our product line, but still use it in some of our products. In soap, honey offers a sweet scent and many added benefits for your skin.

It is a natural humectant, meaning it helps draw moisture into your skin from the air. Raw honey also helps remove excess oil from the surface of the skin but can also clear out blockages and clogged pores.

Pair all that with its antibacterial and antioxidant properties, honey is effective in balancing the bacteria on your skin, treating acne and promoting skin healing.

7. Lavandula Angustifolia Oil

Lavender oil is commonly used in aromatherapy, as it is known for its calming and relaxing effects. Many also know it is good for promoting sleep!

Its essential oil is a popular choice for bath products because it has antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties, making it beneficial for treating skin conditions like acne or eczema.
